Mineralis Insurrexi

mineralis insurrexi, which roughly translates at mineral insurrection, used bookplates from a series of coffee table books,  published  between 1965 and 1985,  a period of massive economic growth in the West, sometimes referred to as ‘the golden age of capitalism’. By cutting the mineral samples free from the photographic backgrounds in front of which they are positioned my aim was to evoke both the extractive processes by which they were violently unearthed and allow them to dance free.
