An Extractive Index

Informed  by research in the archives of  The Lapworth and Sedgwick Geological Musuems and installed in the Whewell Mineral Gallery at the Segwick, An Extractive Index, invite us to reconsider Geology as evidencing our knowledge of the Earth and to think instead about the ways in which it offers an index of our entanglements with it.

Digitally collaged historical photographs of geological field trips, lanminated to the glass of the displays, invite reflection on the extractive mind set that has underpinned our relationship to the planet, pointing simultaneously to the hierarchies of working and surveying bodies that has sustained this.
